Since 1991, proceeds from this community chicken festival benefit the following organizations:
The Matthews Public Library came into being in August of 2002, when George Matthews built and gave the building to the Northern Lebanon County community in loving memory of his late wife, June Richard Matthews. The library offers for loan over 1400 DVD titles, 900 books on CD, more than 26,000 hard cover fiction and non-fiction books, public use of six computers, a beautiful children’s book collection, wireless Internet service throughout the building, and a growing collection of ebooks. The library also features a professional Puppet Theater, a marionette and hand puppet theater where storybook characters perform on stage.
Fredericksburg Fire Company
After a few years of devastating fires within the community, a fire in 1915 broke out in the Tinsmith Shop of Geo. W. Kirst & Son. The blaze was extinguished by a chemical fire engine of the employees of M.C. Bresslers Cigar Factory. Thus what might have been a disasterous fire was diverted. Immediately after this fire the citizens of Fredericksburg organized a meeting to establish the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Company. December 14, 1915 the company was known as Fredericksburg Fire Company #1.
The American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
Fredericksburg Lions Club
The Lion’s Clubs in Lebanon County represents local men and women dedicated to their community and enriching the lives of their fellow citizens. Much of this is done through annual events and fundraisers, the Lions make Lebanon County a better place to live, work, learn, and play.
In 1978, the Fredericksburg Community Association (FCA) was founded as a volunteer led, non profit organization to determine how surplus funds raised by local churches, organizations, business, and individuals for the 1976 bi-centennial celebration could be used to benefit the growing local community. With the help of a land grant from Dale Richards, Sr., surplus funds were used to construct the Fredericksburg Community Health Center (FCHC) in 1981. As FCHC continued to expand and add more services, it became feasible to sell the property to the healthcare providers. With the funds from the FCHC sale, FCA sought another opportunity to enhance the local community. In 1997, The Fredericksburg Community Center (FCC) was built to offer a location for memorable events and business meetings. FCA also played a role in establishing the first public library for the town by providing space in the lower level of the FCHC, then in a small church purchased by FCA next to the Bell & Evans plant. Other activities FCA also sponsors are the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, the Christmas decorations throughout the town and the banners along Main Street. We have raised over $325,000 so far! With your help we can make it much, much more!
Thank you to our 2018 Board of Directors for their ongoing support!
